Know The Rules

    General Contest Rules

  1. Series picks can be made and changed up until the start of the first game in each series. For bracket contest purposes, the start of the first game is the “series begins” time listed on the bracket page and is not the time of “puck drop.” (Note: all times listed are Eastern Time.)
  2. Once a series begins, you cannot make or change your pick for that particular series.
  3. Make a pick for each series in this year’s Stanley Cup Playoffs — there is a total of 15 series picks through 4 rounds.
  4. You cannot view other bracketeer’s picks until a series starts and all picks are locked.
  5. Points Assessment – Awards & Penalties

  6. Points are awarded for each series in 3 ways — by picking the winning team, by picking the losing team, and series bonus points.
  7. Picking the Winning Team: you earn +3 points for correctly picking the team that wins the series.
  8. Picking the Losing Team: you are penalized -2 points for picking the team that loses the series.
  9. Series Bonus Points: for each series in which you correctly pick the winning team, you earn bonus points as follows:

  11. Example #1 – Edmonton beats Colorado in 6 games and you picked Edmonton to win in 6 games. (How did I do?)
    • You earn +3 points for correctly picking Edmonton, and
    • you earn +5 Series Bonus Points for accurately picking the number of games it took Edmonton to win the series.
    • In this example, you earned +8 points for this particular series.
  12. Example #2 – Colorado beats Edmonton in 4 games and you picked Colorado to win in 5 games. (How did I do?)
    • You earn +3 points for correctly picking Colorado, and
    • you earn +3 Series Bonus Points for coming within 1 game of the actual number of games it took Colorado to win the series. You would have also earned +3 Series Bonus Points had Colorado won in 6 games.
    • In this example, you earned +6 points for this particular series.
  13. Example #3 – Edmonton beats Colorado in 5 games and you picked Edmonton to win in 7 games. (How did I do?)
    • You earn +3 points for correctly picking Edmonton, and
    • you earn +1 Series Bonus Point for coming within 2 games of the actual number of games it took Edmonton to win the series.
    • In this example, you earned +4 points for this particular series.
  14. Example #4 – Colorado beats Edmonton in 7 games and you picked Colorado to win in 4 games. (How did I do?)
    • You earn +3 points for correctly picking Colorado, and
    • you earn no Series Bonus Points for coming within 3 games of the actual number of games it took Colorado to win the series.
    • In this example, you earned +3 points for this particular series.
  15. Example #5 – Edmonton beats Colorado and you picked Colorado to win the series. (How did I do?)
    • You are penalized -2 points for incorrectly picking Colorado to win the series.
    • There are no Series Bonus Points awared when you pick the losing team – sorry Charlie!
    • In this example, -2 points are deducted from your overall accumulated point total.

    Final Contest Rules

  26. Even if you miss Round 1 picks, there are lots of Bonus Points on the table in each round so “it ain’t over ’til it’s over”.
